nSpare a thought for the people of the Atlantic coastline as they batten down the hatches for a further bout of heavy rain, high winds, and water released from dams .We have been spared the worst of the weather so far in this valley of the Suir.....
Bussed to Carrick this morning to walk the towpath greenway in so far as I could. The river was within a few centimetres of the south bank while stretches of the Carrick side were puddled and the track showed evidence of litter and weeds, deposited as the waters receded.
Not a remnant of a weir showed above water. All was flow and current.
Some people were walking against me as I ventured forth,a cameraman,a man walking his dog and an elderly woman walking briskly home.
The former towpath from the town of Carrick by way of Healy Park up to the former Miloko, now Avonmore is concrete and continues as a grassed track .This track was under water as the photo shows. This is likely to remain so for the next week at the least.
