Ath-bhlian faoi Mhaise - Happy New Year!....
What a year at the Rock!Floods, scores of trees down throughout the woods, trails blocked;a deluge, collapsing over forty metres of boundary wall as well as scouring out a 'ravine' to the very river seventy metres below.
The small zig-zag below the Trailhead was washed clean of the mill-waste painstakingly laid in by Joe,Claire and others, leaving gaping holes still unfilled.
There were many positives as well and these you can browse if you will in the Blog Archives for the year.
Big challenges face us as a Voluntary Group as we reach the end of 2014 and face into 2015.
Currently we are broke and have Insurance expenses down the road and being a Limited Company an Annual Audit at year's end.
The site comes up for renewal later in the year with both server and domain fees and as we're broke !!!!
Would welcome feedback on any issue raised above.
What kind of a footprint have we made at the Rock?
This is the sight that met my eyes yesterday as I approached the entrance to the Rock walks - a seasonal reminder of a lost youth,a remembered youth,a time of winter senses - Christmas.
What a day!As soon as I entered the woodland and began my walk down to the river I saw a flurry of rich red on four feet haring away from me - a young Fox in full winter colour.Next followed a clatter of wings when up to a score of Wood-pigeons rose from the floor of the Spruce wood and took to the skies briefly before alighting again on the high ground above the river.A grey Squirrel followed as it quarried it's way through mounds of leaves in it's search for food. Then a raucous interlude as a pair of Jays blasted the silence. And so it went.Yesterdays Blog attempted to convey a sense of the richness of Fungi appearing at this time of year.
