This morning promised fair so Karol,Joe and I headed out with tasks in mind and weather permitting executed!
We headed, laden with our tools towards the small zig-zag on to the Blue trail and west to the lower end of the track where the fallen beech lay straddling both the river track and the lower zig-zag.
A confab was held as to the best approach to removing the tree.
Agreed to cut high letting the weight of the dangling branches do the rest - worked a dream, allowing me to cut
up the branch further and remove to the woodland floor -Joe saw to it that I cut some lengths to replace those
on the wooden track on the descent, which I did.Joe and Karol had to cut under the remaining bough to ensure total clearance for walkers and workers alike!Task completed to everyone's satisfaction and safely. On to the next task, the cutting of a small gully running parallel to the zig-zag,with the clay and marl removed making a ditch of sorts,to allow water in heavy downpours find a path to the river without taking the path with it!Amazing what a few tools can do in the right hands,a pick,a spade, hands and feet to compact the clay -and a grain of common sense.Back next to the trailhead to work out a plan of attack to secure the entrance by extending the line of the fence to include the ground east and west of the old fence.Plan arrived at with work to commence tomorrow,Thursday.
